The cover decorated in kinpaku, ginpaku and iroe takamakie with a large flowering cherry tree, the inside cover in gold foil, kirikane and hiramakie with various spring herbs and wild violets, the box similarly decorated containing an inkstone, an ink cake holder, paper knife, an owl and two writing brushes, foliate shaped silvered metal water dropper decorated in gilt and shakudo with stylized flower petals, late 19th century, fitted paulownia box inscribed Sakura Suzuribako 'Writing box with cherry'
