Sold with a photocopy of a letter from the artist to Charles Wellington Furse, in 1903, '109 Cheyne Walk, SW, My dear Furse, Thank you so much for your letter. I should have been pleased to have accepted yr offer for the two pictures but I have sold the smaller one to Trench, he made me the same offer as you have done for the two but I told him that I must keep the one with the cumulus cloud until I heard from you so if you like to take it at ?150 I shall be quite satisfied. Your portrait is hung on the centre on the long wall which is the lightest and looks very well, it has a charming movement. I have varnished it where required with Vibert and have ordered some slips to be made to keep it off the glass as it was touching. I think we have got a real good exhibition this time John comes out very well with his portrait of Professor Mackay. Shannon and Strang have both sent which helps the show. Again thanking you, Yrs. very sincerely, P W Steer'
