AN ELEGANT INVISIBLY-SET RUBY AND DIAMOND TWIN LEAF BROOCH

One leaf of invisibly-set calibré-cut rubies, with baguette-cut diamond vein, the other leaf of pavé-set diamonds with a circular-cut diamond border and calibré-cut ruby vein, circa 1960, 5.7cm. wide

Signed by Van Cleef & Arpels, N.Y., No. 33751

In 1935 Van Cleef & Arpels invented the invisible setting. This incredible process of manufacture enables carefully chosen gemstones to fit exactly into precise grooves to make the mount disappear. Various similar brooches to this example have been designed such as the double ruby and diamond holly leaf.
