Lot Essay

The old label is inscribed: Water Jar made by the ancient Cliff Dwellers and found in mines at the Elms Canow [?] This specimen was for many years in a private collection at Eastbourne & was purchased by a dealer on the death of the owner & was acquired by me on 11 Augt. 1921. The surface was originally coated with the lime incrustation, but the major portion of the pot was cleaned by me to show up the design 11 Augt. 1921
