2° (266 x 172mm). 150 leaves. Text of Aesop and Gabrias in Greek and Latin, the others in Greek. Aldine anchor on title and verso of final leaf. (Slight surface soiling.) Early 19th-century vellum, black lettering piece on spine (chipped). Provenance: inscription on first blank leaf (bought from the Hopey sale 1813 ¨8.0.0); Porkington Library (booklabel).
FIRST ALDINE EDITION. The Greek and Latin texts of Aesop and Gabrias are interleaved in the first four gatherings, each comprising of 8 and 9 leaves alternately. The other texts are of Phurnutus, Palaephatus, Heracles Ponticus on allegories in Homer, Horapollo Hieroglyphica, Tarrhaeus and Diymus' proverds, and Apologus Aesopi de Cassita apud Gellium. Renouard pp.49-50 ('rare et belle édition'); Brunet I, 83 ('Belle édition, très-recherchée, et dont les exemplaires bien conservées ne se trouvent pas facilement').
