Types: 1:84G, 3:120G. First initial and initial opening Psalms in interlocking red and blue with penwork decoration by a CONTEMPORARY ENGLISH HAND, smaller initials and paragraph marks alternating in red and blue, yellow capital strokes, MS. catchwords, some MS. quiring still visible. (Small wormhole touching some letters in final few lvs., an occasional minor marginal repair, one or two very light stains.) Modern purple morocco panelled in gilt and blind, preserving its previous mid-16-century London blindstamped calf sides as liners (Oldham roll SW.b.5), g.e., by C. Hanson at the National Library of Wales. Provenance: contemporary marginal annotations, one hand indicating psalms to read at canonical hours; Hugo Pecoke (16th-century inscription).

FIRST BIBLE PRINTED IN NAPLES, with contemporary English ownership as witnessed in the decoration, annotations, early ownership by Pecoke, and London binding. An anti-Lutheran inscription in English is written on qq4r. HC 3059; GW 4220; BMC VI, 862 (IB. 29401); Goff B-545; IGI 1645.
