First edition in Russian translated from the German text of 1864, based on Pirogov's experiences during the Caucasian and Crimean wars, when he was the first to use anesthesia at the front, and developed new techniques in surgery. He is regarded as one of the greatest of all military surgeons, and this text became a standard reference work. Not in Garrison & Morton.
