John Seddon, Warrinton, 10 April 1762, apologising for putting him to the expense of a part letter and recommending Mr. Calamy (?) 'so respectable a youth', asking his report be dated and mentioning his good relations with Mr. Palmer, one page, folio (tear from seal); the second to the Rev. Mr. Belsham, Philadelphia, 8 April 1796, thanking his correspondent for his letter and friendship, bemoaning his exile from England, praising trial by jury on the aquittal of Mr. Hone, and writing of mutual acquaintances and of his recent publications, 4 pages, 4to.
Priestley had been appointed to teach languages and belles-lettres at Warrington Academy in September 1761, where he was singularly happy. Because of his support for the revolutionaries in France, Priestley emigrated to the United States in August 1793 where he remained till his death. (2)
