MARMONTEL, Jean-Francois (1723-1799). Autograph letter signed to Monsieur Dubois, Paris, n.d. [1763] referring to rumours about him, 'mais tu as pour toi la voix publique et la réputation la plus honorable dont la vertu même ait joui', and proposing to visit him after his reception at the academy, one page, 4to, integral leaf addressed to Dubois at the Department of War. -- PIRON, Alexis (1689-1773). Autograph letter signed to an unidentified correspondent ('Monsieur'), n.p., 8 March 1754, breaking the news that Freron, with the Abbe Desportes, is recommencing publication of his papers and 'cette villaine petite brochure qu'il donne tous les dix jours, selon le nouveau marche lui vaut 400 livres'. He has spoken to Desportes about forthcoming works from his correspondent's academy, 'Il me fait les responses du monde le plus convenables à mon propos ...
