Collation: Pt.I A-U4 (U4 a Brewster catalogue dated 1701) 62 woodcuts, signed EB (38 subjects, with 12 blocks repeated to 24 the cut on CI. printed upside-down); Pt.II A-O4. 13 woodcuts (12 repeats from Pt.I, one new subject), Pt.III A-X4, unillustrated. Printed black-letter, with side-notes, chapter-titles etc roman. Contemporary sprinkled calf, raised bands, thistle device in five panels of spine. Provenance: possibly the Earl of Lonsdale's copy sold in the Lowther Castle sale of July 12, 1937.
Wing attributes Part I to John Shurley (fl.1680-1702) and registers the 1681 ed. at S3512. Par II is Wing M2912, and Part III Wing S3436 (the only edition listed). The Pepys collection has a 1681 ed. of Part I and the above edition of Part III (Cm PV IV 8 and 9. A & M 108.
