Three single-fold plates engraved on copper and signed J. Mynde placed at the end of the book, the third plate with an engraved paper flap hinged on with paste at its upper edge, simulating a "vail" over the most holy place of the tabernacle (lower part of the first plate with a jagged tear). Full speckled calf, gilt fillets, 6-panelled back with red morocco title label (hinges weak). Provenance: Miles Poole Penfold (armorial bookplate). A very early example of a children's book incorporating a movable part. The final "Directions to the Binder" carry Watts's instructions about the placing and folding of the plates, with the note: "The Vail of the most Holy Place marked V, is a small square figure to be cut off on all sides in the outmost line, and a straw's breadth of the upper edge of it, on the back-side, is to be pasted on...that it may be lifted from the bottom..." -- [GRIMALDI, Stacey (1790-1863)].
