The inscription reads:-
'This with the other articles of toilet service used by Her Majesty on the occasion of the first State Visit of King Edward and Queen Alexandra to Glasgow on 14th May, 1903. Presented by the members of the Commission of the Corporation by whom the several arrangments for the reception of their Majesties were made, to Lady Ure Primrose, 29th June 1903'.
