This medal was given to the vendor as a child, from the Bassett family.
Billy Bassett, was an outstanding outside-right for W.B.A. and England in the late 19th Century. He played for his country on no less than 16 occasions between 1888 and 1896 and won F.A. Cup Winners medals with W.B.A. in 1888 and 1892. In the 1895 F.A. Cup Final, Aston Villa defeated W.B.A. 1-0, in front of a crowd of 42,000. This was the first F.A. Cup Final to be played at the Crystal Palace.
