A paper slip accompanying this item states "Bequeathed to Sir Charles Murray by H.R.H. The Duchess of Kent in her will". Sir Charles Augustus Murray was groom-in-waiting to The Duchess of Kent's daughter Queen Victoria in 1838 and further Master of Household, 1838-44; secretary of the legation at Naples 1844; and subsequently consul-general in Egypt 1846-53.
