Lot Essay

In his discussion of the present model in the Kress catalogue, Pope-Hennessy points out that the composition has been variously attributed to both Donatello and Riccio. Although the Kress example is called ' Paduan, late 15th or early 16th century', the author admits that a Venetian origin is also possible.
