Lot Essay

The view here depicted was profoundly altered when in 1826 the river Aniene, from which the small cascades were falling, collapsed. As early as 1832 Pope Gregory XII had the cascade recreated, but only in one stream. Another view of the Cascetelle by Ango is lot 137 of this sale.
