Lot Essay

Landscapes by this artist were attributed to a variety of artists such as Bril, Cock or Spranger before, they were grouped together by Jaap Bolten under Ulisse Severino da Cingoli. Nesselrath identified him in 1989 as Gherardo Cibo. He was from an illustrious Genoese family and travelled extensively in the North of the Alps. Cibo was also a botanist and composed for the lute.
