Lot Essay

A variant of the present composition by the same hand is in the Louvre, F. Viatte, Dessins Toscans XVIe-XVIIIe siècle, 1560-1640, Paris, 1988, no. 351, illustrated. Although the latter drawing was attributed by Philip Pouncey to Poccetti, it is described as from his school in the Louvre catalogue. Both drawings are related to one of the four compartments of the ceiling of the Chapel of the Relics, dated 1597, in the Certosa of Galluzzo near Florence. Two other drawings attributed to Poccetti related to the commission are in the Louvre, op. cit., nos. 349-50, both illustrated.
