Lot Essay

Sir Denis Mahon has kindly confirmed the attribution of the drawing, which he dates to the mid-1640s. The Woman and Child with a Bucket, formerly at Holkham, recalls, both in the genre subject and handling, the present drawing, N. Turner and C. Plazzotta, Drawings by Guercino from British Collections, exhib. cat., The British Museum, London, 1991, no. 192, illustrated.
