Billy Moore's association with West Ham United totals 38 years. Born in Newcastle on 6th October, 1894, he joined West Ham in 1922 from Sunderland. As an inside-left, Moore played in all of the Hammers' 51 league and cup games in season 1922-23, which saw them return to Division I and to the first F.A. Cup Final at Wembley. During this season he also gained his only full International appearance for England, against Sweden, in which match he scored two goals. Between 1922/23 and 1928/29 Moore played a total of 202 first-class games for the Club scoring 48 goals. He then retired from playing and was assistant trainer under Charles Paynter for three seasons before becoming Head of the training staff. This position was held for the next 28 years. In May 1960, with the Hammers safely back in Division I, Moore retired from football. He died in September 1968

West Ham defeated Derby 5-2 in this match played at Stamford Bridge, with goals from Moore (2), Brown (2) and Ruffell. Although Brown also scored two goals that day it was Moore who managed to retain the ball after the final whistle, subsequently having it autographed by his team-mates
