Lot Essay

The Boar Hunt was one of three large tapestry panels designed by Edward Matthew Ward RA (1816-1879) reprsenting hunting subjects which were commissioned by Mr. Christopher Sykes M.P. for his new town house from the Royal Tapestry Manufactory at Old Windsor, the three panels were exhibited at the Town Hall of Windsor in 1879 where they were 'deserving of praise, for the thoughtfulness of their design and the spirited manner of their execution'.
