A Japanese Imari charger
Edo Period (Early 18th Century)
Decorated with a central flower-pot with peony and plum within clouds, surrounded by similar flower-pots alternated by a pavilion besides the 'Three Friends' bamboo, pine and prunus, the reverse with three demi flower-heads amongst scrolling chrysanthemum, slight rubbing to the gilt

Christie's charges a Buyer's premium calculated at 20.825% of the hammer price for each lot with a value up to €90,000 (NLG 198.334). If the hammer price of a lot exceeds €90,000 then the hammer price of a lot is calculated at 20.825% of the first €90,000 plus 11.9% of any amount in excess of €90,000. Buyer's Premium is calculated on this basis for each lot individually.

Lot Essay

The unusual design may possibly have followed a Delft design which in turn had interpreted a Japanese design, for example that of the Delft wares of Pieter Adriaenz Kocks. A Japanese Imari vase and cover with a similar design was sold in our London Rooms, 6 April 1998, lot 199.
