A Dutch burr-walnut and figured walnut longcase clock
Late 19th Century, incorporating earlier elements
Inlaid overall with crossbanded lines, the moulded waved arched hood with a central carved bracket and later pierced sound frets to the fronts and sides, with turned pilasters above a shaped rectangular trunk door with a glazed lenticle with the figure of Father Time, above a bombé plinth, on claw-and-ball feet, the dial with silvered Roman chapter ring bearing the signature Jan Henkels/Amsterdam, the matted and engraved centre with subsidiary silvered second's ring, day, month and date aperture and rolling moonphase, above a painted scene with an automaton with various vessels, the four pillar movement with anchor escapement and Dutch strike on two bells
