A North European papier mache, black and gilt-japanned and mother-of-pearl inlaid work table
Late 19th Century
The hinged octagonal top with waved moulded rim, centred by an octafoil floral medallion, enclosing a plain black and gilt-lacquered interior with a tapering well, above a waved frieze decorated with scrolling foliage and checquered bands, on a trumpet-shaped octagonal shaft terminating in a baluster, the lobed circular base with scroll feet, on brass caps and castors - 73cm. high x 44cm. wide x 44cm. deep; And a similarly decorated side chair, the shaped pierced balloon-shaped back centred by an oval inlaid with a floral bouquet, the caned seat with serpentine-fronted seat-rail, on sabre legs joined by stretchers (2)
