Crossbanded and inlaid overall with feather-banding, the eared rectangular top enclosing an interior with four square candle-stands, a blue baize-lined playing-surface and edged with feather-banding, the plain frieze on cabriole legs headed by scallop-shells and with rockwork and flowerhead angles, on claw-and-ball feet, restorations, with Midland Railway label for DERBY

Lot Essay

The card-table, with Palladian eared tablet top, is supported on serpentined legs whose Jupiter's Eagle claw feet, enriched with the husk-festooned scallop-shell badge of Venus, correspond to those of parlour chairs supplied about 1733 for Houghton Hall, Norfolk (see: J.
