A REGENCY BRASS-INLAID AND ORMOLU-MOUNTED ROSEWOOD SECRETAIRE-CABINET

The rectangular cornice with ball finials above a pair of mirror-backed Gothic-glazed doors enclosing two shelves, the lower section with overhanging frieze above a foliate and scroll-inlaid frieze-drawer enclosing a green leather-lined writing-surface and fitted interior with pigeon-holes and satinwood-fronted mahogany-lined drawers above a further pair of panelled doors and on paw feet

Lot Essay

A calamander secretaire of this pattern, including the distinctive roundel and line inlay, is in the Victoria and Albert Museum (no: W.15-1930; see: D. Fitzgerald, Georgian Furniture, London, 1967, no. 137)
