Lot Essay

The interesting form and use of padouk in this table combined with the unusually shaped cabriole leg and use of claw and ball foot suggest that it originates from one of the Portuguese colonies. The rocaille carving to the drawer of this side table and the foot as previously mentioned relate it to a Brazilian chair illustrated in T. Caldi, Il Móvel no Brasil, Rio de Janiero, 1985, p. 273, pl. 242.
