The marquetry decoration on this table was presumably executed to celebrate the marriage between Willem V Batavus, Prince of Orange and Nassau (1748-1806) to Princess Wilhelmina of Prussia (1751-1820), daughter of Prince August Wilhelm of Prussia and Princess Luise of Brunswick-Wolfenbuettel, on 4 October 1767.

Princess Wilhelmina was the niece of Frederick the Great, of the House of Hohenzollern, whose brother Friedrich Wilhelm II, succeeded Frederick the Great and was a great opponent of the French revolution.
The heir of Willem V, Willem I Frederik of The Netherlands (1772-1843), succeeded as Prince of The Netherlands in 1813 and later King of The Netherlands and Grand Duke of Luxembourg between 1815-1840.
