A SUITE OF LOUIS XVI OCHRE-PAINTED SEAT-FURNITURE
Circa 1780
Comprising a settee and six fauteuils, each with grooved frames, the padded arched back, downswept arms and bow-fronted seat close nail-upholstered in original late 18th century Aubusson seat covers depicting Aesop's fables, the arched rectangular back with turned finials to either corner, the arms with inscrolled terminals above panelled flowerheads and turned tapering stop-fluted legs with peg feet, stamped in black ink 18, each fauteuil also stamped in yellow or blue chalk 47460, five of the fauteuils also with a paper label printed 18, 21, 22, 23 and 24 respectively, each fauteuil further stamped in blue ink 21NOV1955 and with an indistinct circular stamp, replacements to four front legs
