Ram Kumar's recent works are a new stage in his ongoing relationship with the theme of the landscape. The work is not a reproduction of a specific site, but rather is a complex hybrid of memories merged with actual sights visited over the years as imprinted in the artist's mind. As a viewer, we are allowed a similar meandering experience. As Nirmal Verma says: 'while sensing the sense of something new in them, we feel that we have seen them before as if in a dream, when the familiar things begin to disturb; not because they have changed, but because the former sites of serenity have been washed away.' (Nirmal Verma, Ram Kumar, Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi, 2001.)
