Portrait of Patrick Grant, three quarter length in Grey Coat, Tartan Plaid and Trousers and Tam O'Shanter his hands resting on his Broad Sword

later inscribed extensively on the reverse

Patrick Grant
The veteran of Culloden. He was Sergeant Major in the Highland Army in 1745 and one of those who escaped over the Walls of Carlisle to fight among his Native Mountains. This portrait of PG was painted by order of the Honble Wm Maule of Panmure on who's estate in the Parish of Lethnot, County of Forfar, he then resided, when at the great age of 109. He lived two years afterwards, and enjoyed a Pension of One Guinea per week granted to him with remainder to his daughter (aged 65) by His Majesty George 4th
