Further details
Gowry (more usually, Gowrie) House was the Perth residence of the Earls of Gowrie, situated to the North of South Street at the East end. It was built in 1520 and demolished in 1807. On 5th August 1600, it was the scene of mysterious events known as the Gowrie Consipracy, when the Earl probably tried to kidnap the King, James VI. In the ensuing fracas, Lord Gowrie and his heir were both killed.
