AN ENGLISH BROADSWORD with double-edged blade (point reduced) with short fuller on each side at the forte, iron hilt of 'mortuary' type, with solid guard chiselled in low relief with foliage framing a human head on each side, drawn out into a knuckle-guard flanked by similar side-bars and all linked by diagonal bars, chiselled ovoidal pommel, and later spirally-grooved leather-covered wooden grip (grip slightly damaged, the hilt rust patinated), circa 1640
