A piece of red silk garter ribbon with paste set lettering, inscribed with the Royal motto 'Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense', a label acompanies this piece which reads 'A piece of the ribbon of the garter worn by Prince Charles Stuart at the battle of Cullodden. The entire ribbon was given by Mr John Hay, the Prince's Secretary, to Mr Robert Barclay who had fought in the insurhant army. By him it was presented about 1777 to Miss Edgar who became Mrs Bishop-Watson of Montrose who gave this piece to Mr Robert Chambers', in glazed rectangular case
