A James I silver-gilt cup and cover on spreading circular base with rim foot, knopped baluster stem chased with acanthus foliage and a lozenge pattern design, with three scroll supports, the bowl and domed detachable cover chased all-over with a hobnail pattern, the finial formed as a jester standing on a ball with right hand raised holding a staff, maker's mark I.W. in monogram, probably for John Wardlaw, 1610, (cf. Jackson second edition, page 108), (42oz.), 15¼in. high, (gilding perhaps 19th Century), the bowl and stem with screw fitting, marked on bowl only.
