DOUGIE GRAY A native of Alford, Aberdeen, Douglas Herbert Gray was born on 4th April 1905. Signed by Rangers in 1925 from Aberdeen Mugiemoss, Gray spent the next twenty-two years at Ibrox, Rangers being his only Senior Club. Although of moderate phyisique, he had a gargantuan durability which goes no little way towards explaining his phenomenal 940 appearances for the club, a Scottish record. In this period he made ten full International appearances for Scotland and six for the Scottish League. In a period of unparalleled success, he picked-up 10 League Championship and 6 Scotland Cup Winners medals. Gray died in 1972. The following four lots were awarded to DOUGIE GRAY (See also lot 319)

Rangers defeated Celtic 4-0 in front of 118,115 spectators at Hampden Park on 14th April 1928. The Rangers scorers that day were Meiklejohn (Pen), McPhail and Archibald (2). This victory ended Rangers twenty-five year Scottish Cup Hoodoo having being losing finalists on five previous occasions.
