FRANK SWIFT Frank Victor Swift was born in Blackpool on 24th December 1913. His footballing apprenticeship was served with local sides Blackpool Gasworks and Fleetwood before joining Manchester City on amateur forms in season 1931-32. He turned professional in October 1932. He soon made a big impression at the club and was immensly popular with a formidable physique:- 6ft 2ins tall; 14st; and a hand span of 11½ins. He won Championship medals with City in seasons 1937 and 1947, and an F.A. Cup Winners medal in 1934. He made 19 full International appearances for England and three for The Football League. During World War II, Swift guested for Hamilton Academics. When he retired from playing he became a football journalist and sadly lost his life in the Munich Disaster while engaged in this capacity.
