JACK CRAYSTON William John Crayston was born in Grange-over-Sands, Lancashire on 9th October 1910. He played schoolboy football for Barrow-in-Furness before moving, via Ulverston Town and Burrow, to Bradford City in May 1930. From there he joined Arsenal in May 1934 for ¨5,250. As a right-half he soon slotted in to the already famous Arsenal side of the 1930's and won Championship medals in seasons 1935 and 1938 and a F.A. Cup Winners medal in 1936. It was during this period that he made his eight full International appearances for England and one for The Football League. He played with Arsenal until injury forced him to retire in 1943. However, his association with Arsenal did not end there, for he became Assistant Manager. He then stepped up a grade in December 1956 and became Arsenal Manager. He held this post until May 1958 when he became Doncaster Rovers Manager, following this up with the post of Secretary/Manager from March 1959 - June 1961.
