The letter in the above lot from the President of the Commission for Foreign Affairs refers to the tour of Hungary by Newcastle United from 19/5/29 to 30/5/29 and relates in part to the behaviour of the Newcastle United team. Perhaps the most interesting part of the four page letter is the report by the referee Gabriel Boronkay on the match between Newcastle United and the Hungarian Professional Representative Team, 30/5/29:- 'in the 26th minute of the second half-time, I was compelled to send off the field the English player named Maitland, on account of his having boxed his adversary (Hirzer). In the 28th minute I had to give marching orders to the English player Gallacher because of his rough foul against Borsanyi. I beg to remark that in this moment I was standing quite close to the player and I am convinced that he was tipsy, and as I heard, he drunk much cognac between the two half-times.'
