The lady seated on the left hand side of the drawing is holding a large book which is inscribed on the cover 'Catalogue of his Majestie's Pictures'.
Burney was a cousin of the novelist Fanny Burney. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1780-1803. He produced many cariacatures as well as delightful designs and vignettes and for the last forty years of his life worked almost exclusively as a book illustrator, illustrating such poets as Langhorne and Young.
