A FRENCH VARI-COLOURED GOLD BONBONNIERE WITH ROMAN MICRO-MOSAIC
maker's mark of François-Nicolas Chevance, Paris, circa 1789, with the charge and décharge of Jean-François Kalendrin, the micro-mosaic Rome, first quarter of the nineteenth century

Circular, with dotted engine-turned panels, in chased and engraved vari-colour gold borders of foliage, flowers and berries, the cover later set with a micro-mosaic depicting a pair of doves (cover mount missing), marked inside the sides and base, with décharge and later control marks stamped on the bezel - 2 3/8in. (6cm.) diam.
