GERMAN. A GILT STRIKING MONSTRANCE WATCH
unsigned, originally late 16th Century, possibly provincial

the steel movement with foliot balance and stackfreed, verge escapement, spring driven going and countwheel strike train striking on an octagonal bell in the case, steel plates and turned steel pillars, latches for mounting in the case, the gilt dial with outer XII hour ring and inner Arabic 13 to 24 hour ring, engraved sunburst to the centre, blued steel hour hand, pierced and engraved octagonal case with hinged back containing the bell with pierced and engraved scene of the Man of Sorrows with various items of torture, with pointwork decoration, mounted on hexagonal gilt base with pointwork decoration supported by mythical figures and scrollwork and surmounted by crucifix and stylistic dolphins - 20cm. high
