After the First World War Lord Leverhulme acquired substantial land throughout the Western Isles for the extraction and production of fish oil. This painting of a small island, west of Stornoway was a popular location for their family picnics and was commissioned by Lord Leverhulme's lawyer, Frederick Giles-Hunt. In the nearest rowing Boat (from left to right) is Lord Lever, a local boatman, Frederick Giles-Hunt and two of Lord Levers children. Beyond, can be seen the anchored Herring Fleet in Stornoway Harbour and two Fishery Protection vessels still in wartime camouflage
