Lot Essay

St. Bernard's were a famous old Edinburgh side who were members of the Scottish Football League from 1893 to 1915 and from 1921 to 1939. In the 1930's St. Bernard's were a force to be reckoned with in the Scottish 2nd Division and twice finished third in the League. In 1938 they took the eventual winners of the Scottish Cup, East Fife, to two replays in the semi-finals. Thereafter, the club closed down after only one season in the North-Eastern League (1941-42) and in 1943 their ground, Royal Gymnasium Park was sold and efforts to continue as a United Club with Leith Athletic met with no success.
