Born in Bordeaux, Alaux studied under Marcel Baschet and Henri Roger and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1913, concentrating on scenes from maritime and colonial history (see his 'Bougainville at Tahiti' sold in our South Kensington Rooms 28 May 1987, lot 200, (¨14,300) and 'Le Bain du Matin' sold in these Rooms, 16 July 1993, lot 97 (¨4,025))
