Bonnaffe was a French artist working in the costumbrista tradition active in Lima in the mid-nineteenth century. Three albums of his work, including numerous handcoloured lithographs after his drawings, are recorded: Costumes of America, published in Philadelphia in 1852 and Recuerdos de Lima (in two volumes), published in Lima in 1856 and 1857
