Lot Essay

Westley Richards have kindly confirmed that this rifle was built in 1913 for Rear Admiral J. A. Baker and that it was subsequently re-sold to H. H. The Maharaja of Patiala in 1921. The original Westley Richards case included with the rifle was made for a similar .577 supplied to Manton's of Calcutta, No. 17231. This was presumeably also purchased by the Maharaja of Patiala and the cases swapped in his armoury
