The concept of an 'automatic' revolver is most unusual. Colonel G. Vincent Fosbery, V.C., obtained his initial patents for a recoil-operated revolver in 1895 and Webley revolvers built on this system became famed for their strength and accuracy. Revolver No. 2608 bears the following inscription:- 'C. F. Thomsen H.Q. 8T.H. BG.E. F.A. A.I.F. (Field Artillery Australian Imperial Forces)
