The gun has an interesting self-opening action which resembles, in principle, the Holland & Holland system. In design it is quite different, having grooves on the knuckle of the action which serve to compress self-opening rods in their housings on the underside of the barrels as the gun is closed. This is very much a deluxe feature and would have taken considerably more time to add to a normal best gun. The forend-wood is shaped to accomodate the self-opening compressors
