Krishna kills the crane demon Bakasura
From the Bhagavata Purana, gouache heightened with gold on paper, the miniature in two sections with Krishna first approaching the demon and then tearing the demon apart by splitting open his beak, gopis and cows by a lake in the foreground, red painted borders, verso with relevant sanskrit text and a line of gurumukhi giving the Punjabi paraphrase, generally good condition
11½ x 16 1/8 in. (29.0 x 40.9 cm.)

Lot Essay
